coe-2022.pngThere is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand.

general-medical-council-logo.pngOur service provides private adhd medication titration titration instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessments are free and include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This will include a medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination, you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial in your case. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person via video link or via phone). Your clinician will explain the various options for medication and, if you choose to start on medication we will recommend titrating the dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process could take several weeks and requires gradually altering your child's dosage until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It is not uncommon to have to titrate as high as three different medicines before you can find the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It is essential for parents to take part in this process of titration, and keep an eye on their child's behavior so that they can inform the doctor if the medicine is helping or causing side effects.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a prescription from a private pharmacy that you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). You must attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed, you'll be able to make appointment with the psychiatrist, as necessary. The appointment usually takes place through a video call using zoom but in certain circumstances it is possible to do an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

At this point we will discuss any treatment options and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dosage, as well as any side effects you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration appointments is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. The pharmacy will be charged for any charges for medication.

The doctor will also ask you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms impact your life, as well as any relationship issues you might be experiencing or other mental health issues you may be experiencing. adhd titration meaning is a genetic condition, so it's important to look into your family's history in order to determine if you're at a higher chance of developing this condition.

It is essential to be honest and transparent with the clinician during this assessment, as the information they receive will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is a vital step in the process as failing to do so could result in an inaccurate diagnosis and consequently an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you decide to be treated for ADHD we'll schedule an appointment for a follow-up visit with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this field. This can be scheduled at the time of your diagnosis if you want to start treatment immediately, or within two weeks if would like more time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the possibilities that are available to you.

We suggest that if are unsure of your preferences, you speak with your GP prior to scheduling your private assessment. Certain providers have different policies on whether or not they require an GP letter. We also recommend that you check whether your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement', which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication

Medication is an integral aspect of the treatment process for many people who are looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. It isn't always easy to obtain a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

One method to avoid this is to request your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can choose a service that provides a private assessment service and titration. This can help you reduce time and be more convenient, particularly in the event of a hectic schedule.

After you've been recommended by this method your chosen doctor will evaluate you and determine whether or not you require to be adjusted on your medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that differ by doctor but the most important ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These forms will allow your doctor to determine if there are any reasons that suggest you shouldn't take ADHD medications, when they've been prescribed.

If you are on a titration medication, it will typically consist of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be thoroughly examined and monitored to determine the most suitable combination for you. The titration process can be long and may require a number of additional appointments before you are stable.

Based on the type of medication you are taking, follow-up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly. Your clinician will check that you are stable with the medication, record any adverse reactions you've experienced, and make any needed adjustments to ensure that you remain on a dose that is safe. You will be required to go to an annual health check-up and routine health examination which includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.

Some patients may be content with their medication and do not have to discuss their titration further. If, however, they do need further discussions about the titration process and treatment plan, it's possible to be referred back to the private clinic that made their initial assessment. In this case the titration will be included in the consultation cost. The medication will then be provided through an individual prescription. This can cost more than a prescription from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
