The digital artwork
After months of posts on social media that hint at it, the luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally announced its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The project is dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock an exclusive digital art work NFT by an artist yet to be identified. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the 'collector's piece' is limited to five units and will soon be auctioned off.
Each Space Key contains a block composed of a carbon-fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research program. After returning to Earth the Space Key was engraved with an QR code that connects it to the digital component of the Space Key.
Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of five images was shot by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.
Oefner utilized a balloon with a camera that captured each of the individual images, that were then merged to create the final image. The result is an out of this world photo that captures the beauty of Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic image of the car rising from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned soon, but there is no specific date or place yet.
